Hickory Knolls Discovery Center - Banners
Street Light Banners
These lamp pole banners were created to guide patrons of Hickory Knolls Discovery Center along a walking path leading to the center. Hand drawn graphics portray images of plants, animals and unique features of the area. They are designed to heighten thoughtful awareness of our natural surroundings.
Connect - My assignment was to create a banner depicting nature and technology. Probably the most challenging one. I chose to depict a Blanding's Turtle (unique and native to the area), a Garter snake and
fish of the Fox River. The fish (underwater) are being viewed on a hand held device as one stands
near the river.
Explore - The theme for this one is "plants and streams". I chose the Japanese Iris (likes damp soil), and the Black-eyed Susan. the images are sort of collaged together. I was also to make the banners colorful, to attract walkers from afar.
Observe - This theme is "animal tracks and bird watching". I have both a Cooper's Hawk (soaring) and a Red Tailed Hawk. The tracks are of a deer and a raccoon.
Unwind - I used a picture my husband took in Door County Wisconsin as inspiration for this banner!
Wonder - Stars and space is the theme for this banner. I stretched my creativity and learned some new cool effects for this one.
